Start the buzz! A real, live author is
coming to your school. You can help the students feel excited about this
by putting up welcome signs and placing KIDS LOVE
Travel Books in school display cases. Talk about the event, the
author and her books to administrators, teachers, students, parents,
volunteers, etc. |

|
 |
Read and discuss the author's books with the students.
Encourage the staff to read them too! |
 |
Encourage teachers to integrate the author's books with
the curriculum and to work in the class. Besides the school purchasing a
copy of KIDS LOVE OHIO for each classroom, you may also want to purchase
a copy of the State Big Activity Book for each classroom (wonderful
state history reproducible activity pages).

Ask your librarian to select and supply teachers and
students with books that relate to the subject or themes of the author's
books. If necessary, books can be borrowed from the public library or
other schools. |
|
 | Display the author's books at the library or create a display of
books and student-made posters, banners or bookmarks related to the
themes in the books. |
|
 | Have students prepare questions for the Author for the day of the
visit. |
|
 | Publicize the event through the school newsletter. Then, invite area
newspapers and Television stations in advance. Send your press release
emails to the “Assignment Editor”. Give them the contact person to
request permission to enter the school that day. The community will be
interested that you are hosting an author. |
